The Lowdown: Mane back to his best

The 30-year-old has enjoyed another excellent season for the Reds, bouncing back from falling below his usual standards last year like so many Reds players in the Premier League.

Mane has scored 21 goals in all competitions in 2021/22 so far, not forgetting to win the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, making him one of the favorites to win the Ballon d’Or later this year.

The striker’s current deal at Liverpool expires at the end of next season meaning the club are running out of time to extend his deal or cash in, and a worrying update has emerged regarding his future.

The latest: Bayern link emerges

Take from Twitter, sky sports journalist Plettenberg claimed that Mane’s representatives have spoken to Bayern chief Hasan Salihamidžić (HS) about a possible move this summer, although no negotiations between the clubs themselves have yet started:

“Sadio Mane exclusive news: Salihamidzic he wants it ! He is the desired “statement transfer” in the summer! No negotiations between Bayern and LFC until now. HS met with his agent this weekend. Mane was a subject. Talks over a contract extension between LFC and Mane are difficult.

The verdict: a new contract more likely?

There is no doubt that this is concerning from a Liverpool perspective, with Mane still such a force in world football and capable of playing at the top for many years to come.

The hope is that it was nothing more than putting their name in Bayern’s hat, however, with the Bundesliga giants aware he is more likely to be offered a new contract this summer, according to the report. transfer insider Graeme Bailey.

Mane is still a key man under Jurgen Klopp, and is playing for arguably the best team in Europe, so it would be a surprise if he left at this stage of his career, in what would be a step back.
